Anthropology in Global Spaces: Possible or Impossible Dialogues?
Abstract (English)
The World Council of Anthropological Associations (WCAA) is a global platform that brings together local and regional anthropology associations from around the world.Among the regular activities carried out by the WCAA are the following initiatives:
1. Webinars: Since 2020, this virtual space has brought together colleagues from different parts of the world to discuss issues previously defined by the association.
2. Deja Lu: An initiative aimed at increasing the visibility of journal articles from different regions of the world, following the criteria established by their respective editors.
3. Task Forces: These groups bring together colleagues to generate discussions on specific themes, considering the diversity within global anthropologies.
4. In Their Own Terms: This initiative aimed to provide a space for voices to express themselves in their own terms through unpublished texts.
5. Delegates meetings: held every two or three months, around a topic related to the associations with the objective of promoting joint reflection and exchange.
Each of these initiatives presents its own challenges. However, when framed within discussions on world anthropologies, a common denominator emerges: the dialogues they foster take place within an unequal global landscape of knowledge production in the discipline.
This Round Table aims to critically reflect on the actions undertaken by the WCAA and the possible—or impossible—dialogues they enable, as part of the relationships between anthropologies in an unequal global space.
