Animals in the City: Quadrobers between humans and non-humans

Abstract (English)
The article explores the phenomenon of quadrobics as a subculture that bridges human and non-human interactions. The author examines the practices of quadrobics participants using digital ethnography, interviews, and participant observation. The study reveals how quadrobics practitioners employ material attributes (masks, tails, gloves) and bodily practices (running, jumping on all fours) to perform their identity. Quadrobics is interpreted as an attempt to rethink anthropocentrism and traditional conceptions of urban space. While sharing similarities with other subcultures like furry fandom and therianthropy, quadrobics is distinguished by its emphasis on physical engagement with urban environments and rejection of anthropomorphism. This research highlights the cultural significance of the subculture in reinterpreting human and non-human relations in contemporary society.
