Title: Navigating New Shores: Venezuelan Migration and Diaspora in Trinidad
Abstract: The recent Venezuelan migration crisis has led to a significant influx of Venezuelans into Trinidad, reshaping the island’s socio-economic and cultural landscape. This paper explores the causes and consequences of this migration, examining the challenges faced by Venezuelan migrants, including legal status, employment, and integration into Trinidadian society. It also highlights the responses of the Trinidadian government, civil society, and local communities in addressing this migration phenomenon. Through an analysis of migration patterns, diaspora networks, and cultural exchanges, this study provides a nuanced understanding of the Venezuelan migrant experience and its implications for both nations. Findings suggest that while migrants encounter numerous obstacles, their presence also fosters economic contributions and cultural enrichment, leading to a dynamic redefinition of identity and belonging in Trinidad. This research contributes to broader discussions on migration, diaspora, and policy responses in the Caribbean region.
