‘Is it just me or does everyone stare at you wherever you go?’: relationalities of race and gender in fieldwork among women in Cape Verde
Abstract (English)
How do our bodies affect our fieldwork? To answer this question, here I ask how being a man, young, gay and Afro-Brazilian resonated in my fieldwork with Bissau-Guinean and Senegalese immigrant women who lives in Praia, Cape Verde. Here I want to reflect on how categories such as race, gender and sexuality are fluid and constantly negotiated during fieldwork, especially in relation to other markers such as class, nationality and age. The data I present is drawn from my doctoral research, the fieldwork for which took place at different times in 2022 and 2023.Keywords (Ingles)
